A good meditation cushion - zafu for posture and zabuton for ankles and knees allows you to sit more comfortably for longer by allowing you knees to fall below your pelvis, putting less strain on your lower back.

If your knees tend to point skywards you will find it more comfortable to put a supportive blanket or two under each knee/thigh area.
